Greetings! Just a quick post to let you know that Al and I are back from a wonderful California vacation and readjusting to eastern standard time. Here are some pictures:
One of many alleys and courtyards in the beautiful town of Carmel by the Sea:
The Carmel beach, part of which abuts the famous Pebble Beach golf course:
See that layer of fog on the horizon in each picture above? We often woke to fog along the coast, which would gradually move out over the water as the day warmed up.
Point Lobos State Park just south of Carmel:
Sea lions at the park:
The wine country around Paso Robles (made famous in the movie “Sideways”):
The beautiful Santa Barbara courthouse with it’s many tiles and a view from its tower (will share more pictures of tiles and other “quilt inspiring” designs from this remarkable building in a future post):
Sequoia and Kings Canyon National Parks:
Al in the first picture and other people at the foot of the General Sherman tree in the second picture (click for enlargements) give you some perspective on these absolutely magnificent trees! Below is the road through and view of Kings Canyon:
A view in Sequoia and a waterfall in Kings Canyon:
At the end of our trip we stayed in Sausalito, just north of San Francisco and had a beautiful view of SF bay and the city from the private deck off our room:
Of course we went into the city for a few hours. Here’s a view from Pacific Heights and in the lower right corner you can see a man doing tai chi. His female partner was beside him but didn’t get into the picture. They were doing their movements in unison and were fun to watch. What a great spot for it!:
I thoroughly enjoyed the very different vegetation from New England in mid and southern California. Here is a gorgeous Bird of Paradise and I’ll try to share some more pictures of plants in the future:
I hope to post again soon with updates on my quilting.
Be kind (especially after the recent horrific shootings in Florida), be grateful, and cherish each day, Gladi
